If you had to, could you save someone’s life?

Learning first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) will give you the skills you need in a medical emergency. Heart attacks, strokes, or convulsions have a way of sneaking up on us without warning. Each passing minute after collapsing from a cardiac arrest can reduce the chance of survival by as much as 10% so knowing what to do is critical. Even if we want to intervene to reduce the effect of a burn, fracture, or allergic reaction, you need to know what to do. Knowing first aid and CPR will place you in a position where you can take responsible, appropriate action in an emergency.

Over 2,500 people suffer cardiac arrests in the City of Toronto each year. In 2013, eleven people were saved when bystanders stepped in to help a paramedic save a life by following three easy steps:

  1. Call 911 for the paramedics.
  2. Start CPR; push hard and fast on the person’s chest to the beat of the song “Stayin’ Alive” (100-125 beats per minute).
  3. In a public place, ask for the AED (or public access defibrillator). Follow the instructions, and administer a life-saving shock if necessary.

Toronto Paramedic Services provides a variety of quality First Aid, CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation/defibrillation) and Emergency First Responder courses. All Toronto Paramedic Services First Aid programs are WSIB approved under the name EMS First Aid and follow the new international CPR guidelines. We offer our training programs at a variety of locations by certified instructors. Toronto Paramedic Services will arrange for an instructor to visit your worksite or specified location for your convenience. For more information call Toronto Paramedic Services at 416-392-9833 or email us at emscpr@toronto.ca.

Standard First Aid with Level “C” CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training (17 hours)

This exciting new course offers you three valuable courses in one:
